Stewart continued “we are working as hard as we can to win this thing.”

From the NRCC: Chris Stewart Advances to ‘On the Radar’

Utah Republican Candidate Takes Second Step to Achieving ‘Young Gun’ Status
Washington —- The National Republican Congressional Committee today announced Chris Stewart as an ‘On the Radar’ candidate, the important second step in the ‘Young Guns’ program. Founded during the 2007-2008 election cycle by Reps. Eric Cantor (R-VA), Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and Paul Ryan (R-WI), the ‘Young Guns’ program is a Member-driven effort that is the primary method for recruiting strong candidates for both open-seat and challenger races. Stewart is running for Utah’s Second Congressional District.
“We are looking forward to working with Chris Stewart, who has already proven himself by meeting rigorous benchmarks in the ‘Young Guns’ program that will position his campaign for victory,” said NRCC Chairman Pete Sessions (R-TX). “Chris Stewart’s dedication and experience enables him to advocate effectively for pro-growth policies and fight the failed status quo in Washington. This will stand in stark contrast to the Obama-Pelosi record of spending, borrowing and taxing that Utah families and small businesses know has failed.”
The ‘Young Guns’ program encourages candidates who have proven their ability to meet crucial campaign benchmarks to develop their campaigns further in order to achieve victory on Election Day. In achieving ‘On the Radar’ status, Chris Stewart has met organizational and fundraising benchmarks and has already begun to establish himself as a strong contender. Stewart will now work toward even higher goals that will help him advance in the ‘Young Guns’ program and build an effective, winning campaign.
Candidate Chris Stewart is a New York Times best-selling and national award-winning author, world-record-setting Air Force pilot, and president and CEO of the Shipley Group, a nationally recognized consulting and training company. With his business and leadership experience, Stewart is confident that he can help end Washington’s wasteful habits and fight for the priorities of the middle class.
With the second set of rigorous benchmarks met in order to achieve ‘On the Radar’ status, Chris Stewart will now work toward even higher goals that will help him advance in the ‘Young Guns’ program and build an effective, winning campaign.
I grew up on a farm as one of ten children. My father, mother, and all the children had responsibilities, including milking cows and hauling crops. As anyone with a small business knows, it isn’t always easy to make ends meet. Sometimes it means taking a second job, like when my father took up teaching fifth grade in order to make payments on the farm. And yes, some years were tougher than others, but we worked hard and sacrificed in order to make the farm business work.

Like my father, I run my own small business. Some months are not as good as others and sometimes it’s a strain to keep expenses within budget. The last few years have been particularly challenging. There are more regulations on businesses and higher taxes. Equally troubling is the uncertainty I face trying to maintain a budget when there are threats to raise taxes yet again. But, there is one thing my business always operates with: a budget. Families and businesses must have budgets.  Budgets require self-control and the ability to give and take when unexpected circumstances arise. Otherwise, there’s simply no way to remain solvent.

Now, let’s contrast.

During President Obama’s 1020 days in office, the U.S. government has been in operation without a budget and has so far yielded a deficit increase of $4.72 trillion. If the Senate does not act, the debt will increase by $1.3 trillion this year and another $900 billion in 2013. Senator Harry Reid is not compelled to act and the White House is passively accepting the mountains of debt.

Three years without a budget? Any business would be in shambles without the restraints a budget imposes. Budgets also outline priorities so that necessary expenses are taken care of and “fun projects” are cast aside for a later date. Without a budget setting priorities for our government, our nation’s dire needs are not being met and government accountability is being skirted. Our country is running out of time. At the current rate Washington is burning money, we are on a very near-term collision course with insolvency. It’s time for our government to exercise some self-restraint and be required to live like real Americans: within a budget.

Where are the leaders and the common sense? The American people are outraged and wholly justified in crying out over this ridiculous lack of responsibility with our money. I call upon the Senate to get serious and act on its Constitutional duty. Pass a budget. Not only that, but pass a balanced budget where the expenses do not exceed the income. It’s simple math.

Let me state the obvious: it’s time that we live within our means. If elected, I will be a voice of this kind of reason, the kind you and I along with all Americans live by in our own lives.
A budget, a real one, is the only sensible course of action. It’s time for restraint. It’s time for accountability.

Press Release - Time for Fiscal Restraint and Accountability

FARMINGTON – Chris Stewart, candidate for the Second Congressional District, sharply criticized the United States Senate for failing to govern in accordance with the law and pass a budget. He called the budget proposal from the President “unserious.” He also bemoaned decisions by Majority Leader Harry Reid to avoid a vote on a budget as political and outrageously irresponsible.
“Budgeting is the fundamental responsibility of Congress, yet for 1020 days the Senate – under the leadership of Harry Reid – has shirked its primary responsibility by deferring to tenured bureaucrats in the administration to determine the amount of taxpayer money they want to spend,” said Stewart. “So far adding up to 4 trillion dollars for 2012, of which 1.33 trillion dollars will be borrowed.”
While clarifying his comments about the budget, Stewart said, “Any business would be in shambles without the restraints that a budget imposes. As a person who grew up on a farm, I learned from my father the reality of responsible budgeting. Without one, there’s simply no way to remain solvent.” Stewart continued, “From the beginning of the Obama administration, spending by the United States government has so far yielded a deficit increase of $4.72 trillion and will climb to over $6 trillion by the end of the year. It could not be any clearer that this trajectory is on the path to insolvency.”
Stewart blasted Harry Reid’s decision not to bring a budget to the floor for a vote as “outrageously irresponsible and politically driven to help ensure Democrats will not be forced to vote on an agenda of the White House.” He called on the Senate to pass a budget saying, “It’s time to live within our means. It’s time for the Senate to continue the work already completed by the House and pass a budget and live up to its constitutional duty. A budget, a real one, is the only sensible course of action. It’s time for restraint. It’s time for accountability.”

The people in this nation have always proven they has the courage to do the right thing, even when it’s the hard thing. I believe we are at another tipping point now, and we are going to experience another miracle in our future we have to do 3 things:
  • We must be willing to hear the truth.
  • We must have the courage to do the right thing.
  • We must keep our faith in the courage of the nation.

We are, as Abraham Lincoln said, the “last best hope of the earth” and there is a future, a role, and a purpose for our nation this day.

Healthcare spending doubles in the next decade.

According to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) in its Budget Economic Outlook report released yesterday, America is on track to more than double government spending on health care in the next ten years. In other words, by 2022, if nothing changes, the American taxpayers will be footing a health care bill of $1.8 trillion each year, or 7.3% of our total economy.

Assuming a population of 300 million U.S. citizens, that adds up to a total of $6000 per person (not per taxpayer!) each year. A family of four will have a tax bill of $24,000—just for health care.

These numbers are not just troubling; they are unconscionable and fully unsustainable. A mere ten years from now, we will be swamped with unprecedented tax rates, rivaling any from our history as a great nation.

Something must change. We must work together to alter this collision course of insanity and insolvency.

The Obamacare runaway train must be stopped. If elected, I will work tooth and nail to help overturn and diminish the threat of Obamacare. This is the necessary course of action for a nation whose heritage and destiny are greatness.
